Art of horse in the ceramics of Nove

Ceramic horse from Nove
Of all the art forms, ceramics has been one of the most inspiring to artists throughout the ages. Various styles can be observed in different parts of the world, as well as from one century (or millennium) to the next.

But there are some places where the art of ceramics has reached truly exceptional levels of excellence, as in the case of the town of Nove, which, together with Bassano del Grappa, was the focal point of ceramics production in the territory of what was then the Republic of Venice.

All this came about thanks to a shift in the course of the Brenta River, a crystalline waterway that begins in the Dolomite mountains, as the change of route exposed a bank of clay in the vicinity of Nove. The ceramics industry, which went from an inital phase of artistic craftsmenship to one of mass production in the post-war period, has now returned to its artistic roots.

Masters of the art include Ezio Zanardello, founder of the Ahura brand, who has devoted his life to creating masterpieces of ceramic artistry. A number of pieces by Ezio are among the most prized of our entire collection, and we have many memories to cherish from our stay in Nove. There are also pieces by Giuseppe Facchinello, one of the leading artists of the Italian contemporary scene.
