We were all children once

Exibition We were all children once

"Once We Were Children" is an exhibition dedicated to 20th-century toys, the ones that shaped the childhoods of us all. On display, you will find unique board games from all over the world, tin and wooden toys, rocking horses, spring riders, tricycles, and many miniature models that are sure to surprise every visitor.

The idea for this exhibition was inspired by the discovery of a painting by Flemish artist Justus Sustermans, portraying a young Ferdinando II de' Medici in Polish attire riding his pony. A vibrant scene that brought to mind our childhood and the creativity of our parents in crafting toys to bring us joy.

This is a unique opportunity to dive into the past—because who among us hasn’t played with horses? We are confident that even great champions will recognize some of their favorite childhood toys.

The exhibition can also be complemented by a chess workshop, inviting everyone to discover their own personal ”Move of the Horse”
