“Gypsy cob Ford”, three hearts one soul

Gypsy cob Ford di Rosamund Beck

After a time of mulling over the brief of the Paard Verzameld Collective monthly challenge,  Rosamund Beck decided to go with the dark background commonly used by the old masters.

The style of her piece is fanciful and folk-arty. She wanted to capture the dreamy lightness of children living in their imagination.

And for this reason, she chose to use her own "Gypsy cob Ford". In this painting the horse is ridden by the artist together with her twin sister Missy. As a horse mad children, the connection between Rosamund and her twin has always be constant and deep, no words needed, like the connection they always felt for horses.

Rosamund can't describe the all consuming passion for horses that she felt during her life. They have been her saviours throughout her growth and so the connection between child and horse has a deep and meaningful place in her heart.

In the painting, the two girls have fun playing with a big horse. Everything is so nice. They are dressed in a funny way like two cowgirls and the cheerful colors of the trims, saddle, clothes and ropes are immediately noticeable to the eye. Everything is very tender but at the same time harmonious.

It is possible to admire this painting for hours with a sweet smile on the face.

Who has never been so creative and happy as a child with a horse?

Something about Rosamund Beck and her equine art

The New Zealand artist Rosamund Beck has always been passionate about horses. Today she lives on a ten acre block with her five horses, 2 hounds and 1 husband! So, she always has many opportunities to draw and paint her many equine and canine muses.

She discovered acrylic pouring art around 7 years ago, this was a breakthrough time for her as she took on art full-time and her art business blossomed.  With a couple of years doing folk art behind, she was ready for a new challenge and so she took a class for acrylic pouring at a local art store close to her house. She was very excited and decided to take acrylic pouring and develop her own personal style and technique.

Her paintings are at the intersection of realism and abstract, just one colour backgrounds to help highlight the intricate patterns that acrylic pouring offers.  Rosamund is so excited about this medium, can't be known how a painting is going to turn out, so each piece is totally different and cannot be repeated.

As well as the pouring, she draw in pencil and paint in acrylics. The older she get the more she realise she don’t know and so she love the challenge that each painting gives her.
