How to bring kids closer to the horse through games

Plush with wheels

For those who love the world of horses, what more precious gift can there be than to introduce children to that world at a young age?

All parents with a passion for horses try to pass their feelings for the animal on to their children. Stuffed horse toys and hobby horses will definitely have a place among the child’s first playthings, but there are other, extremely original possibilities as well.

The snow globes, most definitely a ‘collection within the collection’, are glass balls filled with liquid and ‘snow’ that comes falling down when you turn them upside down and then back upright. Extremely popular as souvenirs, collectors seek them out as well. And of course there were bound to be some with horses inside for children to play with.

But as the mother of a child with the ‘horse gene’, I realised that children who carry this passion will play only with horses, such as the wheeled horse strollers to be found at antiques sales or flea markets, objects that are especially popular in northern Europe, in the area that takes Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands, allcountries where the sport of riding is as widespread as soccer in Italy.

Numerous toys in the collection were bought in Amsterdam on April 30th, the birthday of the Queen of the Netherlands. On this day, all the Dutch have the right to sell their second-hand things outside their homes, turning the city into one big market. A park is set aside for children who wish to sell their old toys. In this park, we gave my daughter Maria a few Euros and we left her free to purchase toy horses for the collection by bargaining with her fellow 7-8-9 year-olds.
