When Angela Sjöholm was a little girl, she had to grow up fast. She ended up on a big farm for a while and that's where she found Dusty Date, a beautiful white Arabian gelding.
At first his lively way of being a bit scared the artist, but when they got to know each other, she found him sweet and bearing. In the end, she had the courage to ride him and from that moment, it was impossible for her to forget about him.
He empowered her and gave Angela the confidence and strength in a way that no one else could. Dusty Date was a fast and lively horse but with a kind heart and soul.
Every time Angela sat on his back, they ran away from the world: finally, just the two of them. He gave her a safe place where nothing would have reached them.
It was a challenge to go back in time, but it is an honour for Angela to retrace those moments of her childhood with him. This painting is dedicated to him, the exact half of her.
Four and a half years ago, Angela lost her twin sister, who committed suicide. They have complimented each other throughout her life and there is nothing in her daily life that does not include her.
In this work she represents the crow flying by, inspired and connected by the Swedish song Flickan och kråkan (the girl and the crow) by Mikael Wiehe.
Something about Angela Sjöholm and her equine art
Angela Sjöholm started her professional career as a tattoo-artist but soon she got sick, starting to shake and eventually she had to quit: that's when she found the love for acrylics.
Her professional career as an equine artist started about three years ago. Before that moment, she only painted portraits for friends and families: they all gave her confidence to go on, step by step. Without these people lifting her, she wouldn't be where she's today.
About a year ago, she started trying to sculp: she wanted to try this artistic method for a very long time. Since years, she had been watching and following so many sculptors to learn the process. Her first sculpture was an experiment and everything seemed not to go right. But then, she learned from all the mistakes and now she's a great sculptor.
Today her art is even wider: her paintings, portraits and sculptures are all around the world.
She feels that her biggest accomplishment and pride as an artist is a portrait of Sweden’s fastest sprinter of all time, I Kirk, which today can be found in Dubai.
Angela has held art exhibitions and shows at Skönabäck Sweden. She's looking forward to hold more shows in the future.
She mainly works her paintings in acrylic and sculpts with clay, but sometimes she also uses coffee, gold leaf and oils.
